Four victories,
three shut-outs, and not playing great hockey? After wins of 5-0, 2-0, 11-1, and 4-0 over the likes of Morristown-Beard, Pope
John, Portledge, and Bishop Eustace, Delbarton cruises into Wednesday’s Gordon Cup Semi-Final tilt vs. Seton Hall feeling
that a statement must be made. The Green Wave has outscored their arch-nemesis 9-1 over the course of two games played earlier
this season. 5-1 and 4-0 were the previous tallies, with the first contest coming at Mennen Arena and the second at Richard
J. Codey Arena at South Mountain. Prior to Friday’s game vs. Bishop Eustace, Assistant Captain Charles Nerbak
led the Green and White with 41 points (16 goals, 25 assists). Captain Matty Schillings has the team lead in goals
with 19. Matty has also dished out 13 assists, many of which have gone to Freshman phenom’ Kenny Agostino, who
has registered 11 goals and 19 assists so far this season. Junior Michael Infante has been stellar in goal, winning
nine games since his debut on January 5. Aside from the Lawrenceville game, in which Infante was fantastic in a 3-2 triumph,
Infante has not given up a goal since January 30. He has shut out quality opponents such as Bergen Catholic, Seton Hall, and
Pope John.
The Delbarton players and coaches know there is plenty of room for improvement and they do not feel as if they have
been playing up to their potential recently. They certainly will have a major stage to send a message to the rest of the hockey
squads in New Jersey on Wednesday. Delbarton vs. Seton Hall, Round 3….Prediction: Delbarton Green Wave 3,
Seton Hall Prep Pirates 1.
Over the Boards with Green Wave Head Coach Bruce Shatel
Joshua: Having outscored your previous four opponents (Morristown-Beard, Pope John, Portledge, and
Bishop Eustace) 22-1 in four victories, how well has the #1 team in N.J., the Green Wave of Delbarton, been playing as of
late?
Coach Shatel: Over our last four games, I think we have played O.K. I don't think
we have played a complete game since the Lawrenceville game. We need to come out and play hard for three periods against
Seton Hall.
Joshua: The Wave has put up nine goals vs. the Pirates this year and only given up one. Even
though the #1 (Delbarton) and #4 (Seton Hall) teams in Jersey seem to be split by a wide margin, will the rivalry
aspect of Delbarton-Seton Hall balance out the contest?
Coach Shatel: You can throw the first two meetings out the window. Every time we
play each other, anything can happen. I expect this to be a one goal game.
Joshua: While most Green Wave-Pirates games are played on weekend nights, today's game is a 3:30
tilt on a Wednesday. How unfamiliar will the atmosphere and setting be for the players this afternoon and will emotional adjustments
be necessary?
Coach Shatel: I don't suspect the crowd will be as big as it usually is for a Seton
Hall-Delbarton game, but I bet both student bodies will be well represented. It will be exciting regardless of how many people
show up to the game.
Joshua: Although the Wave won both games vs. the Blue and White this year by decisive margins, there
is always room for improvement. What will the key notes of concern be for the Green and White tomorrow in an attempt to play
near perfect hockey?
Coach Shatel: I hope we handle their trap a little better this time. We need to
get more pucks to the net on our Power Play. They will try to pressure us when they are short-handed and we need to move
the puck ahead of the pressure. We have done a decent job controlling their quick forwards in the previous meetings. We
need to do that again tonight.
Joshua: Thanks, Coach Shatel. Good luck against S.H.P.
Coach Shatel: Thanks, Josh.
